GBP Christmas Reminder. We're in pretty good shape

Two days out from the holiday, and a few days removed from the sting of the Steelers loss, I remembered something...

The Packers are by far in the best shape in the NFC North for years to come.

Why? Mr. Aaron Rodgers. With QB being by far the most important position in football, I pity fans of the Lions, Bears, and even the Vikings.

I posted on Facebook that if you were to start a team and choose any QB in football right now, I would choose Rodgers. This sparked an outrage from Peyton Manning fans, but Rodgers is seven years younger!

Here's a quick rundown of the QB situation in the NFC North:

Bears: Yikes! The Bears shipped high draft picks and a capable starter in Kyle Orton for Jay Cutler. Culter came with excessive baggage and an overconfident attitude, but he has no playmakers around him, an aging team, and it looks like the Bears are going to clean house in the coaching staff---forcing him to learn a new system. No thanks.

Lions: Why did they insist on playing Matthew Stafford? Its not like the Lions were a playoff team with him. Now he's taken several huge hits, appears to be injury prone, and may have his confidence rattled. (see Joey Harrington) The jury is still out.

Vikings: I could blab on forever on the latest Brad Childress/Brett Favre rift, but the reality is that he's not going to play forever. (I hope!) The Vikes don't appear to have a capable guy to replace him in-house, and I wouldn't want anyone that will be available in free agency this spring. Plus, look at the run/pass splits right now. I'll take my chances against a Childress coached QB.

Packers: And now to justify my mancrush on Rodgers. Like anyone, he has his shortcomings, but his numbers are dazzling, he's signed long-term, he appears to be physically and mentally tough, and he's probably overcome the hardest thing in his career (replacing Favre) at a young age. Finally, he's been part of basically the same offensive scheme since he was drafted.

So, maybe I'm trying to make myself feel better after this latest loss, or that the Pack is on the road for the playoffs---but I feel great long-term about our QB situation in relation to our main rivals. Hope everyone has a great holiday!
