New Customized CareerBuilder Product

So if you've read in the past, you know I've preached before about the importance of following up with all candidates that apply for your opening.

I know! I know! There is simply not enough time to follow up with everyone who applies, especially now when the resumes seem to endlessly flow in for your job opening.

Well, this recent article on careerbuilder.com talks about a new feature they have called "My Letters." In short, it looks pretty sweet. The system allows you to send an auto reply (up to 20 different ones are allowed) with more information about the recruiting process.

How about this for an automatic response:

"Thanks for your interest in ABC Company. Our team will be reviewing resumes during the week of ____. We will be following up on X date to schedule interviews. If we do not contact you, we will retain your information for a period of 6 months, so it is not necessary to apply to additional job openings. You can learn more about us at www.____"

My take is that in a job market that is dominated by the Internet and a couple of clicks of the mouse, candidates are ok with an automated response. What they are not ok with is no response. Some are just annoyed by it, but others carry the grudge forever.

Below is the link to the article, which also offers some sample candidate rejection letters. These should go to anyone who gets to the interview stage.
