I'm probably the last to offer this...but Happy New Year! What a start to 2009 its been: A million plus people crammed around the Capitol to welcome a new President, the Arizona Cardinals (what???) are in the Super Bowl, and unfortunately the area continued its downward economic swoon as more jobs were lost. Depending on how your measure it, we are in our worst economic climate in more than 20 years, or longer. (Hold on we'll bring you back up:)
One tool HR Managers and hiring authorities have that professionals who experienced earlier recessions did not is the Internet. You could argue that when used effectively, its the great equalizer. I'm not qualified to discuss the marketing benefits, but I can confidently share that as the web has evolved it can drastically save you money and time in relation to your recruiting budget. The revolutionary web address that accomplishes this is www.indeed.com, and its free. Below is a description of the site and its advantages.
www.indeed.com works as an Internet spider of sorts searching job boards, online classifieds, and company web sites for job postings. For candidates, this means they can access the latest openings with one click, while companies can enjoy the benefit of simply posting their job on their own website, knowing it will reach everyone who desires to know more quickly.
No Cost-As more candidates learn about this time saving feature, companies will benefit by saving money through avoiding newspapers and job boards such as Monster, CareerBuilder and Dice. As these sites often have different formats for posting jobs, you simply have to become an expert at one---your own site. For larger organizations, this allows hiring managers or additional authorized users to quickly pop on your site and post a new opportunity, knowing it will reach the right audience.
Email Alerts-Perhaps Indeed's sharpest feature is the email alert. By entering in a location and keywords (Example: Engineer in Milwaukee) the system will email a candidate on a daily basis every posting that includes those keywords. In a competitive market, a job seeker can confidently check their email in the morning knowing they will be aware of all the available opportunities in their field.
Only Half the Battle-With your posting now reaching a huge audience and with more candidates looking for work---there may be a tendency to become inundated with applicants. A direct-hire recruiter can help by providing specific qualified candidates, individuals that are aware of the company's brand and are potentially from a competitor. The company is still in control, as they can make an educated decision between the recruited candidate and the job seeker that replied to the website ad before spending any money. (Come on, I had to do one plug for my business.)
This week's hot list of current opportunities are below. Please contact me with your referral or feel free to have them contact me directly. While I expect www.indeed.com to become very popular, there are still many candidates who are unaware of this site. This can immediately save them time and maximize their search.
In addition, if your organization has been forced to downsize, QPS has developed an outplacement division to help with candidates at all levels of your company with the transition. Please contact me to learn more.
